Subject: Manning /Mangan & Cooney

Message Detail:
My GG Grandfather, Philip Manning/Mangan (I have found him listed both ways) came from County Tipperary, and was born 22 March, 1818. We think he was from Fethard or the surrounding area. He was related in some way to Archbishop Patrick Augustine Feehan who was born in Killenaule and became Archbishop of Chicago. Patrick Feehan's mother was Judith Cooney, and I am wondering if Philip Manning's mother was a sister to Judith Cooney.

Philip lived in Charlestown, Boston, MA, for between 11 to 17 years. He then settled in Gilberts, Illinois around 1862. There are quite a few early settlers of Gilberts From Tipperary. Some of the names of the early settlers of Gilberts are Manning, Kelly, Meagher, Tobin, Powers, Hayes, Phelan, Welsh, Galligan.

Some tombstones in St. Mary's Cemetery in Gilberts, Illinois refer to Tipperary County as place of origin. Some have Fethard as a place of Origin.

I would appreciate any info you might have on Philip Manning.

Thank You!
