I would like to get some information about the following verses. I got them off a old reel to reel recording made by my mother many years ago. Her madein name was Anastasia O'Brien, from Coolmoyne and she was born in 1899.The recording was very low so I dont know if the words are all correct. Someone may know who Lar or Peggy Shaughnessy was. Away down west in Coolmoyne in the wigwam, When the birds were in full song, And a narrow rustic bridge set up the whole day long. Their hearts were light and easy, As they watched the evening star through the roof, They decided to buy a new spring car. Handsome was the car they bought, A stylish little gig. Painted bright and screwed and sealed up tight, Pearl liked Micky Murphy said Laurence laughingly, And as for Peggy Shaughnessy she rubbed her eyes to se Joe was smoking and half choking not a sight to see, Then going fast on Sunday last doing twenty from the Church, And at Hughes creek there was a fearful lurch, Poor Lar saw stars, and then got scars And Higgins made them squeal, Begor says Lar between gigs and cars, We must buy an automobile! --
